The Common App was recently asked on a counselor forum about superscoring with regards to combined English/Writing and Writing.
A representative from the Common App responded with some clarifications that are helpful when you're looking at changes in ELA/Writing as the ACT has evolved prior to September 2015, between September 2015 and June 2016, and from September 2016 to now.
At a glance, this is not quite the most straightforward timeline, as there have been a lot of changes in the last few years in the ACT. However, we hope this can clarify this topic to counselors and students who are struggling with this question.
Based on the email below, it looks like the right email to contact the Common App is email@example.com.
Email From Common App:
For students who have taken the ACT with Writing test, they should report their Writing score in the field on the Common App that asks for the "Highest Combined English/Writing or Writing Subject Score."
The Common App question is written to accommodate for changes in how ACT has reported Writing scores over the past several years:
* Prior to Sept 2015: ACT reported Combined English/Writing (1-36 scale) and a Writing subscore (2-12 range)
* Sept 2015 - June 2016: ACT reported a Writing score (1-36 range)
* Sept 2016 - present: ACT reports a Writing score (2-12 range)
We want to be inclusive of all applicants, regardless of when they took the test. Any applicant who has a question can refer to the FAQs within the application or reach out to our Solutions Center 24/7/365 at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We appreciate you raising the question and will look into ways to help clarify the language in the application.
